Join BFC next Friday night (December 7th) for our open mic featuring fantastic artist BING FUTCH. For those of you who missed Bing last time he was here (3 or 4 years ago), you will NOT want to miss him again. He is one of the most enjoyable and unique performers you will ever experience. (As artist Bill Perras posted on Facebook: “I second that!! DON’T MISS BING!”)
In addition… as the holiday season approaches, we thought BFC could use this opportunity to try to make a difference in our community. As we are grateful for each other and our wonderful music community, this is the time of year to think of those less fortunate. One of our members, Joanne Tramonte, is involved in the Deputy Chris Schaub Christmas Toy Drive. (Deputy Schaub was a BSO officer killed in an accident two months ago.) This toy drive… sponsored by the American Police Hall of Fame… will benefit 57 children in Florida whose mother or father was a law enforcement officer who died in the line of duty. Although it is not a requirement of admission to the event… we urge you to bring one new toy… which will be distributed to the program and shared with the families affected.

BING FUTCH has been playing Appalachian mountain dulcimer since 1986 and is one of the most high-profile performers of this uniquely American instrument today. Over the years, he has also worked steadily as a composer of music for film, television, theater, commercials and themed attractions. As a solo performer, Bing displays high-energy performances and engaging audience interaction that infuses every show. His original songs are rooted within international folk music, mixing African and Native American rhythms and melodies, blues, bluegrass, funk, jazz, Dixieland, Celtic, country/western, middle eastern and latin influences with original rock and pop grooves. Keeping one foot firmly planted on traditional music soil, Bing explores exciting new territory with the mountain dulcimer and Native American Flute; from acoustic explorations to fully electric soundscapes. Named “2006 Songwriter of the Year” by the Songwriters Showcases of America with a 2007 award for “Song of the Year” (“Crazy Feels Like”), Bing writes and sings tunes that defy comparison due to their genre-hopping nature and rollercoaster approach to subject matter. His clear and expressive tenor vocals alternately whisper and wail from smooth, soulful depths to powerful high harmonies, all wrapped in imaginative arrangements that are as unique as they are catchy and memorable. He has opened for Grammy-nominated artists SAM & RUBY, bluesman SCOTT AINSLIE, singer/songwriter LARRY MANGUM and shared the stage with Grammy-nominated act THE DIXIE BEE-LINERS, national champion fingerstyle guitarist MICHAEL CHAPDELAINE, GRATEFUL DEAD keyboardist TOM CONSTANTEN and zydeco king CHUBBY CARRIER.
Here is a wonderful video of Bing performing:
