As we watch Florida being paved over, drained and repurposed, it is
fair to wonder, is or will there be anything left of old Florida, of the the people who settled it in the modern era? That is why we treasure performers like Frank Thomas and his late wife Ann as they record and memorialize the people who worked the land and shaped the character of our State. In that vein, Frank tells us that J.D.and Zetha Lewis are successors to his legacy, quite an approbation from a living legend.
J.D. and Zetha Lewis are singer/songwriters, “a backwoods Florida country boy and girl “, as they call themselves. J.D. is from a seventh generation Florida pioneer family dating to the early 18th century and was raised by his single mother and his grandparents, “My roots run deep in this Florida sand says” J.D. He is the oldest of three sons and grew up loving to hunt and fish the creeks around his little south Florida town. His
home was filled with Bluegrass, Folk and Southern Rock music and his mother bought him his first guitar at the local Western Auto Store while he was laid up in bed after a severe leg injury when he was 12 which he taught himself to play. From that moment on J.D. dreamed of being able touch people through his picking. Then at a very young age he met his soul mate Zetha and they decided they wanted a family and being on the road would not be good for it and decided to put music on a shelf until they raised their four wonderful children.
J.D. and Zetha accomplished just that; now it is time to turn the page and start Chapter Two of their life. With his wife Zetha by his side singing with him at every show J.D strives to touch every heart and soul through his heartfelt songs and music. J.D. has performed at major showcases such as the Florida Folk Festival, Barberville , Fort Christmas , Corkscrew Swamp , The Caladium Festival , The First Annual Frank Thomas Festival, The Duette Cracker Festival , The Florida Opry , and Fort Hammer Park and other treasured Florida venues. J.D. has also performed in Alabama , Georgia and Tennessee . In 2013 he recorded some of his music in Tennessee with the help of Mr Cory Clark . J.D. has been blessed to perform along side some of the best musicians such as Frank Thomas , Billy Dean, Jim Stafford, and John McEuen. J.D. has a unique sound to his musical story telling, he loves what he does and it truly shows. His soft finger picking and mellow, resonant voice bring us the mood, sound and
stories of two hundred years of Florida music, swamp music, if you will.
Take Frank Thomas’ word for it; spend an evening living Olde Florida with two dedicated masters.
