Miami Dance Update
Whew! Everyone could certainly use some relief from the anxiety and stress of the past two weeks.
The BAD NEWS IS
The Barnacle State Park’s outdoor pavilion sustained serious damage from Hurricane Irma and will be out of commission for some time. Because many of our Dade dancers are still recovering from the storm, with another storm possible next weekend, we will put our Sunday afternoon Old Time Dances on hold for September and October, and evaluate the situation again in November.
THE GOOD NEWS IS
The Park has offered us use of the porch or office parking lot. In addition we have the upstairs room at John Martin’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, 253 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, as an alternate site if the Park pavilion remains unavailable.
Look for emails on dances at either Park or the Pub for November and beyond.
If you have alternate sites, please contact us.
TO CONTINUE
We need get 20-plus dancers/ RSVP to make group dancing the quality experience it should be. We need to form a support group of people who will help putting on our Contra/Barn dances in Miami.
The Boca dance has a core group of volunteers that take turns with running monthly dances.. Help us keep the wonderful tradition of American group folk dancing alive in Miami! We need to connect on something besides the internet.
YOU CAN HELP by
Bringing more than yourself to a dance. By getting the word out to friends and day-to-day contacts, to build our number of dancers back up to sustainable levels. Marketing, promotion, whatever you can think of.
Let us know how you might be of assistance, in whatever small way. A few people making phone calls can add up to a dance floor full of smiles.
Anita and I remain committed and passionate about the good-energy-vibe of group dancing, and love creating a fun, joyful good-time experience with only people and music. We look forward to sharing that with you again as soon as possible.
