House Concert Review – Claude Bourbon and Hunter Altschul – Boumel House Concerst 10/29/11

Posted by - October 30, 2011 - Boumel House Concerts, Dr. Bob, House Concert Reviews

Boumel House Concerts series presented Claude Bourbon last night with Hunter Altschul opening. Held inside due to rain with an intimate gathering of about 40 people, this was a unique opportunity to see both a maestro and student of acoustic guitar.

Claude Bourbon (http://www.claudebourbon.org/) was born in France in the early 60’s and grew up in Switzerland where he was classically trained for many years. This finger picking guitarist has performed and studied all over the world, and he has crafted an unbelievable fusion of classical and jazz, with ethereal Eastern influences, including Spanish and Latin elements with strains of Western folk.

Bourbon is both a unique and formidable performer inspired by music and song from all around the world. Taking varied sounds, he weaves them into a performance of blues, rock, and jazz that defy all labels, and it is all delivered within a gravely voice that anyone from Lotte Lenya to Tom Waits would appreciate.

Hunter Altschul (http://hunteraltschul.bandcamp.com/) is a twenty year old singer-songwriter who is emerging as one of Southeast Florida’s new shining stars. Inspired by the Shins and Bon Iver, he blends the struggle of twenty-something angst with the longing of adulthood paradoxes to create musical visions the audience both floats within and through. Truley amazing.

Thank you to Arlene for providing such an incredible evening of musical inspiration and magnetism.
