HARVEY KAUFMAN
Harvey Kaufman’s doctors must use sound suppressors on their stethoscopes because Harvey is all heart. Whether during his 29 years
of teaching sixth grade science (bless him) or performing Jewish liturgical music during services or performing at age 14 ten days after getting
his first guitar or with his dog Neshama or letting it all hang out with his Cool Old Dudes acoustic trio, Harvey is totally invested and “ all in.”
He does nothing half way. And the result is a very accomplished and knowledgeable musical performer. Whether accompanying himself or
performing an instrumental piece on guitar, banjo (he had some guidance from Roger Sprung) or, sometimes, auto harp, whether presenting
any of many genres or just being a raconteur, his only goal is to be an entertainer, and a fine one.
Harvey is an accomplished finger style guitarist; Michael Stock says he is one of the best he has heard. He has orchestrated many
pieces on his instruments and has a cool interpretation of L’Chah Dodi. Harvey is also a collector of music and we will hear some very
special pieces has curated.
Moving to Florida from Brooklyn in 1980, Harvey is a product of the sixties and seventies New York folk, bluegrass and old timey scene.
His commitment to Yiddishkeit (Jewish) music, cantorial and popular, has taken his music to
many religious, cantorial settings and public performances. Cool Old Dudes
is a very popular and beloved group welcome all over Miami.
As you can imagine, a full evening of Harvey Kaufman music will be intense and wide ranging. He will put his huge heart and considerable
chops into every genre he visits and into making our evening most enjoyable.
