Local CD Review – CRADLE by Tom Schafer

Posted by - April 6, 2011 - CD Reviews, Dr. Bob

In today’s world of excess filled with Donald Trumps and American Idols, Tom Schafer (www.tomschafermusic.com) stands testament to the idiom that less is more. With a powerful voice rich in texture like a fine piece of mahogany furniture, Tom has the vocal presence to turn even a Hell’s Angels biker-bar into a listening room. Yet, on his latest CD titled CRADLE, it is just one man and one guitar bringing it all home in a tribute to both music and family. Full of blues and love, CRADLE is complete with songs for his wife (SWEET LADY), his son (BLOOD TO BLOOD), and daughter (SWEET DREAMS FOR BRIGITTE) that are laid like fine linen between his heart-of-blues tunes like KROSS THE ROAD and TREAT ME SO BAD. At times I became so entranced listening to these classic performances that even Tom’s elegant guitar playing faded in my mind, leaving only the a’capella presence of his train-stopping voice reverberating in my soul. CRADLE will rock you, and Tom Schafer will show you how to do it purely, simply and beautifully. Tom brings it all home regularly at Luna Star (North Miami), Your Big Picture Café (Davie) and King’s Head Pub (Sunrise).
