THE FOLK CLUB OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC. ACOUSTIC UNDERGROUND CONCERT SERIES
presents
PAUL ROUB
With his tussled hair good looks and sweet voice, when he isn’t belting one
out, you would expect Paul Roub to be writing about loves sought, loves found, loves loved and loves left or lost, and lessons learned there from. And he does. Poetically, in streams of consciousness and in free association. Paul’s “A Little Bit Wiser” advises us to “turn around, turn away”. Lesson learned, lesson taught to us. Rejection, pain, guilt, separation, moments of love, it’s all in his songs. In “Optional” he tells us “ You’re in the air, I’m tethered to the ground, a dot somewhere, too distant to be found.” Paul is an evolving wordsmith not afraid to follow his heart, which he realizes has “A Mind Of It’s Own”. He is in touch with his feelings, sometimes raw, sometimes subtle. In his own words Paul is “a confessional storyteller, ruthless guitarist and nothing-held-back vocalist. He aims to make every line as truthful and beautiful as he can manage, or as darkly comic, or often, both.”
Paul is a serious performer and has wide experience. He grew up in
Cleveland but has spent much of his life in Melbourne, Florida . University of Indiana, University of Miami, played with several local groups in South Florida in the 90’s. Really considers himself a South Florida creature. His influences include The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, Clash, Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson. All good. We will have a whole evening to get to know him and his music.
